Dear Friends and Members of the AGD,
Infectious disease is not merely a problem of the past; despite significant breakthroughs achieved during the last century in the development of antibiotic, antiviral, and antiparasitic drugs and vaccines, the eradication or even control of many infectious diseases has not been accomplished. More accurate and rapid diagnostics has remained a pressing need that can be met today by novel exciting methods such like qPCR and next generation sequencing. Moreover, genomics is being applied to new drug discovery efforts across the whole spectrum of infectious diseases and genomic data are being used in public health surveillance and monitoring of infectious diseases. The 2010 meeting of the AGD will address all these issues in four sessions:
Session 1 - Infectious Disease Epidemiology and spread
Session 2 - The mystery of viral origin
Session 3 - Genetics of host response I
Session 4 - Genetics of host response II
The complete scientific program can be downloaded here.
We expect from the presentations of this meeting and from the vivid discussion with the participants fruitful impulses for further developments in the control of infectious diseases.
You are cordially invited to join the 2010 meeting of the AGD in Potsdam (8th and 9th of October 2010). We are convinced that the program is attractive and that the contribution of the invited excellent speakers should be able to inspire you and your future work. The pleasant atmosphere of the Seminaris SeeHotel Potsdam and its surrounding located at Templiner See is ideally suited to support this highly interesting scientific meeting by recreation of body and mind.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Potsdam.
